Cata was purchased by me b/c I like hw so much, and b/c it was cheap. I never could get the demo working right, and after much hardship, I got the game to work on my computer. The build menu was gimpy, but o well.
The story can't compare to hw, but I like the acolytes ...

I'm storming through it's SP right now.... Story is good, even though the "beast" is somewhat corny. And yes, acolytes are nice but a lvl 4 heavy corvette on the beast side is niiice
Homeworld Cata Story, indeed can't compare to the HW story.
BUT: a. Acting is WAY better (Emotions, Ravage, Beast expressions,...)
b. Extremly Balanced, even though the diffrences...
c. Story-line explains several unclear things.

though i dont like how they applied the definiton of tied to your ships to the word Unbound. In HW1, Unbound meant, "spacefaring races"
campaign was TOO easy, I played through the entire thing in like 2 hours.
otherwise, i thought cata was a good game, I thought the salvaging was kool.
Last night i played a silent movie at full blast, the mime next door went nuts.
Dont forget one of the greatest achievments of Cata - speeding up time. I hated it when you had to wait for you collectors to harvest everthing in Homeworld.
Daton
oh yes i LOVED that feature. I also liked the waypoints and the pilot view option. I thought that the support units were annoying

One of my favorite aspects were the Acolytes. I liked having a corvette and fighter in one.

I think the beast was to be expected in a Homeworld game, because almost EVERY Sci Fi thing has some kind of entity that infects/subverts things
FOundation- THe mUle
System Shock- Those weird creatures
I know there are more
